Instagram pubic hair 'censorship' ignites sexism row

Instagram has ignited a "sexism" scandal after banning a fashion agency that posted a photo of two models with pubes peeking out of their bikinis.

The photo-sharing service gave an Australian firm called Sticks and Stones the boot because an image broke strict rules on nudity or sexual images.

However, Instagram has now changed its mind after admitting it "made a mistake".

The scandal came to light after agency director Ainsley Hutchence tweeted: "This photo got me deleted from Instagram. So I'm on Twitter now."

She had posted images of two models with their bikini bottoms pulled up tight - Miley-stylee - to reveal a thin thatch of stray pubic hairs. But this was too much for Instagram.

"Unfortunately Instagram has ruled out natural hair that appears on all bodies of women that don't trim their bikini lines. This hair occasionally does spill out of the sides of swimwear as it does on men in their underwear," Hutchence said.

"Clearly this is absolutely sexist. Instagram believes that women should wax or get off their platform."

The alleged ban sparked a Twitter storm. ...DailyMirror
