Steven Gerrard claims his decision to leave Liverpool was based the fact he won't be an automatic starter.

The club's longest-serving captain is leaving for the United States when his deal is up in the summer, and at the time of the announcement he said the move was down to "a wish to experience something new".

But in an interview with Liverpool's television channel on Saturday Gerrard admitted it was a "difficult conversation" with manager Brendan Rodgers that made up his mind for good.

He said: "I think the key conversation or moment was with the manager when he sat me down not so long ago and said it was time to manage my games for me and for the team.

Michael Schumacher still faces a long road to recovery as reports emerged on his 46th birthday that he is beginning to recognise his family.

The family of the seven-time Formula One champion have released little information on Mr Schumacher’s recovery since his accident while skiing in the French resort of Meribel in December 2013.

Unverified reports published by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera claim that “sometimes a tear rolls down Michael’s face. He cries when he hears the voice of his children or Corinna [his wife]”.

Crystal Palace have confirmed the appointment of Alan Pardew as their new manager on a three-and-a-half year contract.

He told the Palace website: "I am absolutely delighted to be the new manager of Crystal Palace. Everyone knows my history here, what's important now is to move the club to the next level. I believe with the backing of Steve and the board I can help achieve that and create some new exciting history for the club."

Maku finally secures APGA Guber ticket, accuses PDP of injustice


After weeks of speculations, former minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has finally secured the gubernatorial ticket of All Progressives ​G​rand ​A​lliance, APGA, and accused his former party – Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of injustice.

Mr. Maku defected to APGA from the PDP after suffering defeat at​ the hands of Yusuf Agabi who scored 214 votes to emerge winner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial primary.

He also attempted to secure the gubernatorial ticket of the Labour Party, LP, in Nasarawa State but failed.

Before his blistering New Year eve attack on President Goodluck Jonathan, with a demand he resigns or be voted out over Nigeria’s alarming insecurity and corruption (Posted on Nubdish yesterday the 2nd of Jan, 2015 click here incase you missed it), outspoken Catholic Priest, Ejike Mbaka, had a month earlier praised the president for “doing well”, defending him for not rescuing the abducted Chibok girls, a recording of the Church’s session shows.

At a November 2014 session of his Enugu parish, Father Mbaka told the visiting wife of the president, Patience Jonathan, that her husband had “done well”, and deserved a second term.

He said Mr. Jonathan could have done more if not for “distractions”, apparently referring to the security challenges the administration has grappled with for years.

The cleric also faulted those blaming the president for not rescuing more than 200 schoolgirls abducted from Chibok by Boko Haram militants more than nine months ago.

Campaigners had no reason asking the president to return the girls home since Mr. Jonathan was not keeping them, the priest said.

The presidential candidate of the Alliance for Democracy, Dr Rafiu Salau, on Saturday pledged to create two million jobs if elected into office in next month’s election. 

Salau made the pledge while unfolding his manifesto in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

To attain such a feat, Salau said his administration would ensure more local content involvement in the exploration and sale of crude oil as well as shipment by local maritime companies.

10 killed, 20 houses razed, bomb defused in Plateau


NO fewer than 10 people were  killed and over 20 houses burnt in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State  as a result of hostility between Fulani herdsmen and the natives.

Also, the anti-bomb squad of the Plateau State Police Command on Friday defused a  bomb  close to the resident of a prominent Islamic scholar, Sheik Yahaya Jingir in Jos.

Saudi Arabia's national airline to introduce gender segregation after a string of complaints from male passengers

Saudi Arabia's national airline is allegedly planning to separate male and female passengers on its flights, in accordance to strict rules enforced by the Gulf kingdom.

Gulf media report that Saudia will keep men and women segregated onboard, unless they are close relatives.

The move follows a spate of complaints from male fliers unwilling to allow other males to sit next to their wives and other female family members.

Muslims did not protect Christians on Christmas day in Kaduna – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kaduna state chapter has dismissed media reports that Muslims in the state guarded Christians on Christmas day. 

The reports were dispelled in a press statement by Reverend Sunday Ibrahim, the secretary of the Kaduna State chapter of CAN who stated that it had nothing against genuine peace advocates, but added that it opposed the spreading of falsehood. 

CAN declared that there was no single church in Kaduna that faced any attack that warranted protection on Christmas day. It also disclosed that the usual security agents were drafted to secure Christian worshipers on Christmas day. 

Teenager wakes up during brain surgery and asks doctors for progress report. 'How's it going?'

A teenage girl in Poland woke up during brain surgery and asked her doctors how the operation was going, The Daily Mirror reported.

Iga Jasica, 19, had been undergoing the procedure to have a cancerous growth removed from her brain. Doctors say she woke up halfway through the surgery when the anesthetic wore off. Her brain was exposed, but surgeons say the southwest Polish girl’s health was not in jeopardy.

‘Jonathan courts corrupt officials’ – Father Mbaka

Rev. Father Camilus Ejike Mbaka, renowned Enugu-based priest yesterday reversed his support for President Goodluck Jonathan over his inability to stop corruption and loss of innocent lives. Fr. Mbaka delivering a sermon tagged, “From Good luck to Bad luck,” during the end-of-year mass Wednesday night at the Adoration Ground, Emene, Enugu. 

Rev. Father Mbaka, Founder of Adoration Ministry, Enugu said Jonathan has surrounded himself with very corrupt public officials. As a result, he said, the President has turned a blind eye to their corrupt activities while millions of Nigerians suffer daily in abject poverty and endless insecurity.

This frightening footage shows super-cute Alyssa Guarino cuddling Nay Nay, a 13ft Burmese python, at her family home in Michigan, US.

In the clip, the huge snake is seen slithering over the tiny tot.

While the scenario is the stuff of nightmares for most parents, dad Jamie Guarino sees it as a common show of affection from a family pet.

The governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said that members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state are afraid to promote President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate, terrified that the president has failed Nigerians.

Oil slump: FG may borrow from W’Bank, others


The Federal Government, in a bid to cushion the impact of oil price drop on the nation’s economy, is seeking external loans worth $5.7bn (N2.97tn) from its development partners to finance infrastructure projects contained in the 2015 budget.

Jose Mourinho refused to comment on the performance of the referee and his officials despite the Chelsea manager’s touchline antics at White Hart Lane.

Mourinho saw his side slump to a 5-3 defeat to Tottenham as Harry Kane continued his excellent form for Mauricio Pochettino’s side with a brilliant double.


But the Portuguese looked unhappy throughout and remonstrated with fourth official Andre Marriner several times.

Osinbajo can’t win South West for APC -PDP


The Peoples Democratic Party has said that the choice of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo ( SAN) as the running mate of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) cannot save the All Progressives Congress from defeat in the six states in the South West.

The Chairman of the PDP in Osun State, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, said this while speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Thursday.

Olaoluwa said that Osinbajo did not have the capability to sway voters in the South West to vote the APC presidential candidate.

Olaoluwa, who predicted victory for President Goodluck Jonathan in the next general election said that the nation needed a focused leader like Jonathan to continue to run the affairs of the nation.

Another Suicide bomber attacks Gombe church


The Police on Thursday confirmed a bomb explosion at the entrance of Tudun Wada ECWA Church, Gombe.

The Spokesman of the state Police Command, DSP Fwaje Atajiri, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Gombe that a suicide bomber rode on a motorcycle and tried to enter the church a few minutes after 8 a.m.

Two suicide bombers hit Gombe soldiers’ market


There was panic on New Year eve in Gombe as a large explosion was heard at a market close to the Army barracks in the town.

It was gathered that two suicide bombers tried to smuggle themselves into the market (Mammy Market) at the Army barracks in Gombe but were asked to be checked.

They were said to have refused to go back and were forced to turn back.

The explosive devices strapped on them went off just as they were retreating, killing both of them and injuring those within the vicinity, including the soldiers on guard, who just turned them back.

Appeal court quashes N47.1bn theft charge against Akingbola


THE Court of Appeal in Lagos, on Wednesday, struck out a N47.1 billion theft charge against former managing director of Intercontinental Bank Plc, Mr Erastus Akingbola.
Akingbola was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside Bayo Dada, General Manager of Probics Securities Ltd, before a Lagos High Court in Ikeja.
They were charged on 22 counts bordering on stealing and obtaining money by false pretences.
The appellants had, through their counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun and Professor Taiwo Osipitan, challenged the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the charge preferred against them.

Saudi Arabia bars Nigerian planes carrying Pakistani arms


AUTHORITIES of Saudi Arabia have refused to grant over-flight permits to Nigerian cargo planes carrying military equipment, including armoured tanks from Pakistan, which Nigerian authorities have procured in order to fight the Boko Haram rebel group, media reported on Monday.
It will be recalled that IANS, quoting Pakistani officials in Abuja, early this year, reported that Pakistan had pledged to support Nigeria in its fight against Boko Haram.
