City hammer poor Newcastle to close gap on league leaders Chelsea

Jonathan stated this during the inauguration of the Olorunsogo II Power Station in Ogun State. The power plant is a 750MW Nigerian Integrated Power Project.

“I have lived up to my campaign pledge to make the power sector a priority,” Jonathan said.

Barcelona have paid tribute to former manager Tito Vilanova by naming the main pitch at the club's training ground after him.

Vilanova died in April last year at the age of 45 after a long battle with throat cancer. Having been Pep Guardiola's assistant during his four-year reign in charge of the Catalan giants, Vilanova led Barca to a record 100 points tally in winning La Liga during his only season in sole charge in 2012-13.

Lance Armstrong is returning to the saddle to ride in the Livestrong Challenge in Austin in October.

Armstrong will race in the event for the first time since 2012, when a report from the US Anti-Doping Agency exposed his use of performance-enhancing drugs.

The Malian government has signed a ceasefire deal with rebels in a bid to end long-running unrest in the country's north. As part of a UN-sponsored peace process, both sides agreed to an "immediate cessation" of hostilities. The deal was signed during talks that began in Algeria on Monday.

An exhibitionist caused traffic chaos after performing a sex act in the middle of the road. Amie Carter was spotted by shocked motorists strolling down the road totally naked, with one concerned driver calling the police.

The 31-year-old, from Orlando, Florida, then threw her phone at a car while climbing on top of another.

Chelsea Football Club has released a strong statement in response to a video which shows an apparent group of their supporters chanting about being racist and pushing a black man off a train.

The video, published by the Guardian, showed fans on a Metro train in Paris shortly before the club’s Champions League tie against PSG on Tuesday night.

A group of supporters can be seen chanting “We’re racist, we’re racist, we’re racist – and that’s the way we like it, we like it” and twice pushing a black man out of the train as he tries to board.

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau vowed to disrupt Nigeria’s general election in a new video released Tuesday, after two suicide attacks in the northeast blamed on the Islamists killed 38 people, AFP reports.

“This election will not hold even if we are dead. Even if we are not alive Allah will never allow you to do it,” Shekau said in what appeared to be the first video released by the group on Twitter, a sign of its changing media tactics.

A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has awarded a N25, 000 fine against the Founder, Synagogue Church Of All Nations, Prophet T.B. Joshua, for “deliberately stalling hearing” in a suit he filed against a Lagos coroner, Magistrate O.A. Komolafe.

Komolafe is the coroner probing the September 12, 2014 building collapse in the premises of SCOAN in Ikotun, Lagos. No fewer than 116 persons, mostly South Africans, died in the incident.

President Goodluck Jonathan has demoted his senior special assistant on social media, Reno Omokri. Latest reports say President Jonathan has named showbiz personality, Obi Asika as Omokri’s replacement.

Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State on Tuesday emerged from a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, giving an indication that the Peoples Democratic Party stakeholders would beg former President Olusegun Obasanjo who dumped the party on Monday.

Lamido, who is the North-West Coordinator of Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign, told State House correspondents that Obasanjo remained the father of all. He said Jonathan and all the state governors were creations of the former President.

He explained that it was only appropriate that “when a father is angry with his children, the children should beg him.”

PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, said the party’s patience is on trial, aftermath of the postponement of the general election.

This came just as stakeholders in the party vowed to resist any further shift in the polls rescheduled to hold on March 28 and April 11.

National leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu, who led those that were against further poll shift, added that the party would not tolerate further postponement of the general election.

Some retired senior military officers have lashed out at the Defence Headquarters for describing former President Olusegun Obasanjo as an embarrassment to the military institution.

A former Chief of Army Staff , Gen. Alani Akinrinade (retd.) condemned the military authorities over the comments. Akinrinade said Obasanjo was exercising his political rights, adding that it was absurd for a junior officer to say anything against his superiors.

37 killed, 23 injured in Biu multiple explosions

At least 37 people died in Biu town in Southern Borno state, Nigeria when multiple explosions occurred at a military checkpoint at the entrance of the town while twenty-three others were injured, security sources and ‎witnesses have said.

A group of Boko Haram terrorists tried to enter Biu in a vehicle filled with explosives but were blocked by soldiers at a checkpoint along the Biu-Maiduguri road, a security official said.

“A Boko Haram terrorists alighted the bus and join other travellers from other vehicle to walk through the checkpoint with their hands raised above their heads,” witnesses said.

Stunned passengers were outraged as a couple appeared to have sex on a subway escalator while the woman had a baby strapped to her chest.

A passer-by filmed the x-rated scene, which shows a woman bent over the side of a subway escalator completely oblivious to the people coming and going.

Morocco has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport about its expulsion from the next two editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The North African country was banned from both the 2017 and 2019 tournaments for failing to host the 2015 edition. Morocco was also fined $1m and ordered to pay $9 million in compensation for pulling out at the last minute due to fears over the spread of Ebola.

Moroccan officials had called for the tournament to be delayed as concerns over the potential spread of the virus grew, and then declined to host it when that delay was not granted.

"When comparing it to laser-based tattoo removal, in which you see the burns, the scarring, the blisters, in this case, we've designed a drug that doesn't really have much off-target effect," 27-year-old PhD student and inventor Alec Falkenham told CBC.

"We're not targeting any of the normal skin cells, so you won't see a lot of inflammation. In fact, based on the process that we're actually using, we don't think there will be any inflammation at all and it would actually be anti-inflammatory."
