Barcelona and Chelsea lead in race to sign Juventus' Paul Pogba

Barcelona and Chelsea are the front-runners to sign Juventus star Paul Pogba, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.

The former Manchester United midfielder, who left Old Trafford for Turin in 2012, is arguably the most coveted young player in European football and a number of heavyweights want to prise him away from Italy.

Luis Enrique's Barcelona, Jose Mourinho's Chelsea and Laurent Blanc's Paris Saint-Germain are thought to hold the strongest interest in Pogba, but it is believed the 21-year-old would not seriously consider a move to Paris.

Novak Djokovic meets Andy Murray in Miami Open final

World No 1 Novak Djokovic will face Andy Murray in the final of the Miami Open for a third time after he eased past big-serving American John Isner 7-6 (7-3) 6-2.

Djokovic became the first player in the tournament to break Isner, outserving the giant American with 10 aces to nine as he set up a final with Murray who he beat in Indian Wells last week.

Ekiti State Assembly Commences Plot To Impeach Governor Fayose

It has been gathered that at least 18 members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have agreed to commence investigations into allegations of grave misconduct against Governor Ayodele Fayose.

SaharaReporters has obtained documents accusing Mr. Fayose of various acts of gross misconduct, a first step to his possible impeachment by the lawmakers.

In June 2014, Mr. Fayose, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), decisively won the governorship of Ekiti State, Nigeria, after defeating then incumbent Governor Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) throughout the state.

President Goodluck Jonathan and his family members have started moving their personal belongings out of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, few days after the President lost his re-election bid.

Some buses were sighted loaded with travel bags of different shades and sizes moving out of the President’s official residence at about midday on Friday.
 
A source said the early removal of the personal effects of the first family might have been necessitated by the need for the renovation of the residence ahead of the May 29 handover date.

The President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Friday met behind closed doors with President Goodluck Jonathan inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

That was the first time the two leaders would be meeting since the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Buhari winner of the March 28 presidential election.

Student caught on camera 'having sex in public


A student has been arrested for having sex in public amid claims he was caught on camera romping with a young woman after a boozy session to mark his birthday.

Ning Dang, 19, from Mongolia, had reportedly been celebrating his birthday at a bar close to university dorms in Hong Kong when he met the unnamed girl.

After downing shots into the early hours of the morning, the pair began walking home but only got halfway before they were filmed allegedly having sex.

Thousands watch as devotees VOLUNTEER to be 'crucified' to mark Good Friday in The Philippines

 
More than 60,000 people have attended Good Friday 'crucifixions' in the Philippines as religious devotees mark Good Friday in the country. The event is an annual tradition in the devoutly Catholic country and sees people volunteer to be nailed to wooden crosses in front of watching crowds.

Participants believe the crucifixions to be an act of repentance for their sins and attempts to closely resemble the death of Jesus on the cross.

Militant group claims responsibility for Delta pipeline explosion

An Urhobo militant group, Urhobo Gbagbako, on Friday claimed responsibility for Thursday night’s bombing of the NPDC Oil pipelines at Ighrenene, Afiesere and Ekiugbo communities in Delta State.

The group, which made the claims in an email sent to some reporters, said it is also planning to shut down all the oil fields in Urhobo and Isoko areas.
 
The email signed by the group’s spokesperson, Priest Omodjuvwu, said the bombing of the Ekiugbo/Ighrenene/Afiesere was to draw attention to the neglect of ex-militants of Urhobo extraction.

Kenya attack: 147 dead in Garissa University assault

At least 147 people, mostly students, have been killed in an assault by al-Shabab militants on a university in north-eastern Kenya.

Heavily armed attackers stormed Garissa University early on Thursday, killing two security guards then firing indiscriminately on students.

French President phones Buhari, invites him to Paris

President Francois Hollande
French President Francois Hollande spoke with President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on the telephone on Thursday and invited him to Paris for discussions on the expansion of trade between France and Nigeria.

A statement by the French Embassy in Abuja said the French leader congratulated Buhari on his success and noted the peaceful and fair electoral process which had enhanced Nigeria’s democracy.

Russian trawler sinks with 54 dead

A Russian trawler has sunk off the Kamchatka peninsula, with 54 sailors so far confirmed dead. Sixty-three people have been rescued, many suffering from hypothermia, according to a maritime rescue centre in Russia's Far East. 

The Dalniy Vostok freezer trawler had 132 people on board when it sank. Seventy-eight of the crew were Russian, with the remainder coming from countries including Latvia, Ukraine, Myanmar and Vanuatu.

Inter Milan are preparing to break the bank in order to sign Yaya Toure, according to reports in Italy.

The Manchester City midfielder has reportedly been a target for Roberto Mancini since he took control of the Serie A giants earlier this season and he could finally be ready to make his move for Toure.

Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro recovered from a first-set whitewash to beat three-time champion Venus Williams 0-6 6-1 7-5 and set up a Miami Open semi-final with German ninth seed Andrea Petkovic.

Williams dominated in the early stages against 12th seed Suarez Navarro, taking the first set 6-0 in less than half an hour.

Progress in Iran nuclear talks

Progress has been made in talks on Iran's nuclear programme, Russian and Iranian officials say. Negotiations between six world powers and Iran will resume on Wednesday, overrunning a deadline for a deal. 

Russia's foreign minister said "all key aspects" had been agreed, but western officials said there were still outstanding disagreements.

World powers want to restrict Iran's nuclear programme in return for sanctions relief.

Fellow Nigerians,

I thank you all for turning out en-masse for the March 28 General Elections.

I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word. I have also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. That is one legacy I will like to see endure.

Although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I urge those who may feel aggrieved to follow due process based on our constitution and our electoral laws, in seeking redress.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, after the completion of the collation and announcement of results from across Nigeria, which started at the collation centre in Abuja, the nation’s capital, on Monday and ended on Tuesday, March 31.

Andy Murray claimed his 500th win on the ATP Tour as he advanced to the quarter-finals of the Miami Open with a hard-fought victory over Kevin Anderson.

Nigeria 2015 Polls: Fayose hails Buhari, calls him a dogged fighter

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has hailed President Goodluck Jonathan and the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), for their fighting spirit in the ongoing presidential poll.

In a statement on Tuesday, Fayose, however, stopped short of congratulating the APC candidate for his likely victory in the poll.

Girl born with 'elephant trunk' deformity is worshipped like a god in India

A baby girl is reportedly being worshipped like a god in India after she was born with a facial deformity resembling an elephant's trunk.

Villagers near Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, have flocked to see the 'divine' girl in the belief she is an incarnation of the elephant-headed god Ganesha.

They have continued despite doctors warning her condition may well be a genetic mutation, Asian News International reported.
