A total of 11,320 Nigerian refugees are currently hibernating in Republic of Chad, the United Nations (UN) disclosed on Tuesday.
A total of 2,000 persons were also said to be stranded on an island
on Lake Chad and being transferred by an agency of the global body to
the Chadian mainland.
At a regular press briefing by the Information Service of the body in
Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday, about 150,000 were also said to be
internally displaced, as a result of a twin attack on Baga, a town in
Borno State.
The gathering, chaired by Corinne Momal-Vanian, Director, United
Nations Information Service in Geneva, however, noted that it could not
do an independent verification of the IDPs arithmetic claim.
