Nigeria: 24-hour curfew imposed in Maiduguri as Military battle insurgents

Residents of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, which has remained the stronghold of Boko Haram crises since 2009 woke up Sunday morning with the sound of heavy gunfire and blast all over the city.

According to available reports, residents of the 777 housing estate were fleeing their homes into the city centre for safety, while soldiers and youth vigilante group popularly called civilian JTF were seen rushing towards Maiduguri, Damaturu road to avoid being caught up by the insurgents who were said to have taken over Jimtilo, a village about 7 kilometer to Maiduguri and were marching in great number to attack the state capital.

This is coming less than 24 hours after the insurgents attacked Monguno local government, leaving several people dead while many homes were destroyed in an attack on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, government has imposed 24 hours curfew in Maiduguri as most people are now indoors except for those who went out with cutlasses and locally made guns to join forces with the security operatives to secure their area. ...DailyPost
