A further 13 people were injured in the incident at around 3:30pm
(local time) at the Los Llanos base, in Albacete, where the aircraft was
taking part in a Nato exercise. Six of the injured victims were in a critical condition.
The two-seat
plane crashed as it was taking off in an area where other aircrafts were
parked and preparing to join the Tactical Leadership Program (TLP)
training exercise, the ministry said in a statement.
The military
base is used by Nato as a training facility for pilots from member
states, and most of the victims were believed to be foreigners,
according to a Spanish Foreign Ministry official.
The victims are believed to be from around six or seven different countries. Both pilots were killed in the crash, and it is believed Spanish, French
and Italian nationals were amongst those killed in the explosion.
Sources at the Spanish Defense Ministry added that the aircraft did not have enough power during takeoff. ...TheIndependent and ...MetroUK
