Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea: Van Persie snatches point at the death

Van Persie equalizes

Didier Drogba powered home a trademark header early in the second half but Branislav Ivanovic's red card gifted the hosts the chance to level in injury time in a dramatic finale.
Robin van Persie netted in injury time to earn Manchester United a dramatic point against Chelsea on Sunday.

The hosts started brightly, with Angel Di Maria volleying wide from Juan Mata's neat cross, one of many that United created, but both sides showed frustrations in the opening stages.

Chelsea players were appealing for a penalty as the half wore on, with Marcos Rojo and Branislav Ivanovic tumbling inside the area, but referee Phil Dowd waved away any protests.

Eden Hazard created the best chance of the game soon after the restart, bursting past Chris Smalling before forcing De Gea into a fine save, before Drogba headed home the resulting corner to break the deadlock.

United struggled to mount a comeback in the final half an hour but were handed a lifeline in injury time when Ivanovic earned a clumsy second yellow card and Van Persie tucked away the resulting free kick for a dramatic, last-gasp equaliser. ...Goal
