Venus Williams began her 16th appearance at
the WTA Miami Open by beating qualifier Urszula Radwanska in comfortable
fashion 6-3 6-2.
Williams, seeded 16th, lost serve three times and committed 21 unforced errors but still advanced in barely an hour.
There was better news for Urszula's sister Agnieszka as the seventh
seed beat Anna Schmiedlova 6-4 7-5 in the second round, while France's
Alize Cornet defeated Elena Vesnina 6-4 6-1.
Fourth seed and US
Open finalist Caroline Wozniacki came close to inflicting a rare double
bagel as she swept past American Madison Brengle 6-0 6-1.
