The Opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, has again accused
President Goodluck Jonathan of allowing the Boko Haram insurgency to
fester, causing the deaths of over 15,000 Nigerians and displacing of
over three million others in the past six years.
According to the party, this has put a huge moral burden on the President that would haunt him for a long time to come. This was disclosed in a statement in London by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lai Muhammed on Tuesday.
The party, in the statement, also commended the military for the
successes it had recorded in the battle against Boko Haram in recent
times, adding that the string of victories confirmed APC’s stand that
the Nigerian military could hold its own anywhere and anytime, if
provided with the necessary equipment and if the morale of the troops
was not undermined.
The APC said President Jonathan had
finally admitted his globally acknowledged incompetence by accepting
that he and his team underrated the capacity of Boko Haram. This, the
party said, should have formed part of the resignation statement of a
leader in a truly democratic society, insisting that the president’s
“terrible error of judgment” had led to so many deaths and inflicting so
much pain and sorrow on Nigerians.
