Giant panda Lu Lu smashes own mating session world record

Two giant pandas have broken the record for the longest ever mating session, just hours after the male set the record with a different female.

Panda stud Lu Lu and his mate Xi Mei enjoyed a marathon 18 minute and three second mating session at China’s Sichuan Giant Panda Research Center on Friday.

And panda experts were so pleased with Lu Lu’s prowess, they broadcast the panda porn live on China Network Television’s iPanda website.

Lu Lu broke his record only the day before when he mated for eight minutes with another panda called Zhen Zhen.

Giant pandas are notoriously poor at reproducing in captivity and are critically endangered, with only 1,864 left in the world. 

According to iPanda, the record-breaking encounter only occurred after Xi Mei rejected an initial suitor.

Typically, copulation time between pandas is about 30 seconds to five minutes. Pandas have a short mating season and are poor at reproducing while in captivity, possibly because they lose interest or do not know how to successfully mate.

Female pandas are often only in heat for two or three days a year during the spring.
