Barack Obama jokes Kanye West's US President bid is "CRAY"

President Barack Obama has issued Kanye West with some comical advice for his bid to become the next US President - and appeared to poke fun at Kim Kardashian .

Obama joked that Kanye's bid to become president, "or as he calls it, Peezy", was "CRAY" and made a quip by saying the star actually wants to be Speaker for the House.

While speaking at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco, where the US rapper is set to perform later today, he told attendees: "A little bit later you're going to hear from a guy who I hear has been talking about launching a potential political career."

"You may have heard about this, Kanye is thinking about running … for Speaker of the House."

"But in case Kanye is serious about this whole POTUS (President of the United States) thing, or as he calls it Peezy, I do have advice for him."

He then gave the star a number of hints and tips and during the first one appeared to poke fun at Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian.

He said: "First of all, you've got to spend a lot of time dealing with some strange characters who behave like they're on a reality TV show."

"So you've got to be cool with that."

Obama had clearly done his homework on Kanye as he referenced the rapper's fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, for his next tip.

He added: "This is the second tip, saying that you have a beautiful, dark, twisted fantasy. That's what's known as 'off message' in politics, you can't say something like that."

And the president - who taught constitutional law at University of Chicago Law School in the 90s - had the crowd in raptures with his third and final hint as he appeared to reference himself.

Obama - who is the first African-American president of the United States - said: "And number three, do you really think that this country is going to let a black guy from the south side of Chicago with a funny name to be President of the United States? That is crazy! That's cray."
