Former Chelsea boss, Ancelotti eyes PL return

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed he wants to work in the Premier League again and plans to return to management in January.

The former Chelsea boss has been out of work since being sacked by Real Madrid in the summer and then undergoing a back operation.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, he said he hopes to be back in January and would like to manage again in England.

No fresh Ebola case in Nigeria – FG

The Federal Government has cleared the air on the alleged outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in Calabar, Cross River State.

Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Linus Awute, who made the clarification at a press briefing on Friday in Abuja, said the EVD scare in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital resulted from the death of a patient, who was said to have manifested the symptoms of the killer disease.

He said, “It has been investigated clinically, also using laboratory tests. The young man was down with symptoms that are similar with that of Ebola. His temperature was 37 degrees. But he had not traveled outside Calabar. His family has a case of chicken pox.

Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh on Wednesday explained why he opted for a new captain for the team – a decision that ignited a serious quarrel between the coach and his goalkeeper on Tuesday in Belgium where the Nigerian team are camping.

Oliseh said he chose Ahmed Musa as the new captain because he wanted a player that was not set to retire.

He said, “A lot is built around the captain and the way he carries on with the job means a lot to the team. A captain (Vincent Enyeama) who has said many times that he was retiring. From the onset he told me that and he has continued to say that. Now we are rebuilding a team to last over a long period of time.

B’Haram attacks Buhari estate in Yobe, kills many

Police in Yobe State on Wednesday confirmed that suicide bombers attacked the state capital, Damaturu, in the early hours of the day and killed 18 persons and injured eight others.

It was however independently gathered that three out of the injured persons had been referred to Dala Orthopedic Hospital in Kano.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Yobe State, ASP Toyin Gbadegesin, who spoke to journalists a few hours after the attack, said the number of casualties stood at 18 persons while eight persons were wounded.

FIFA to suspend Sepp Blatter

Sepp Blatter has been told he is facing a 90-day provisional suspension from FIFA's ethics committee - a move which would finally spell the end of his time as president.

FIFA's ethics committee met this week after the Swiss attorney general opened criminal proceedings against Blatter over a £1.3m payment to UEFA President Michel Platini.

Buhari Demands Fuel Imports From Oil Marketers Implicated In Fraud

Facing a huge cash crisis, President Muhammadu Buhari has resorted to unusual strategies for recovering some of the funds stolen from Nigeria’s treasury through a series of shady deals between former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke and a group of indigenous oil companies and oil marketers she and former President Goodluck Jonathan favored.

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, brought the part of the illicit deals to public attention when he alerted Nigerians that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had failed to deposit $20 billion of oil revenues with the CBN. In addition, Mrs. Alison-Madueke had inked some deals, with the blessing of former President Jonathan, involving oil swaps and the transfer of certain oil wells reclaimed from multinational oil companies to shady Nigerian operators, including Jide Omokore and Kola Aluko.

Senator Bukola Saraki of Kwara State emerged as the Senate President while Yakubu Dogara was voted Speaker of the House of Representatives.
 
Both men are members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), but they are not backed by the Party according to an official statement by the APC.

How Saraki emerged as Senate President

The APC lawmakers had on Tuesday morning converged at the International Conference Centre in Abuja for a meeting in which they were to be addressed by Buhari.

The meeting which was called by the APC leadership was to take place at about 9am while the inauguration was scheduled to hold at 10 am.

However, as of 10.56am, the lawmakers were still waiting for the President when news filtered in that the Senate had been inaugurated and that Saraki had emerged unopposed as the Senate President.

Alejandro Burzaco was the president of Argentine sports marketing firm Torneos y Competencias and one of 14 current and ex-Fifa officials and associates indicted over the scandal. Interpol had issued an alert requesting his arrest.

APC rejects Saraki, Dogara’s victory

The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday kicked against the emergence of Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.

Saraki, a former Kwara State governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, emerged unopposed shortly after the Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, proclaimed the eighth Senate into existence.

Senator Ike Ekweremadu of the Peoples Democratic Party trounced Ali Ndume of the ruling party to become Saraki’s deputy.

Dogara   defeated the   former Minority Leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, in a keenly contested poll.

Second seed and 2009 champion Roger Federer is out of the French Open after a 6-4 6-3 7-6 (7-4) defeat to Stan Wawrinka in an all-Swiss quarter-final. 

Wawrinka, 30, had lost all four of their previous matches at Grand Slam tournaments.

NDLEA serves Kashamu extradition notice

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has formally served the Senator-elect for Ogun East Senatorial district, Buruji Kashamu, a notice by the United States government, demanding his extradition for drug-trafficking offences.

The service was said to have been made on June 1 in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/479/2015 with a copy made available to the Chief Judge, Federal High Court.

The agency has been at loggerheads with the Ijebu-born politician over an attempt to facilitate his extradition to the US.

50 dead in Maiduguri suicide bombing

A bomb blast has hit a busy market in the city of Maiduguri on Tuesday, killing as many as 50 people, according to eyewitnesses.  

A man blew himself up at Gamboru cattle market, according to witnesses who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals. One said he counted at least 20 bodies.

Al Jazeera’s Yvonne Ndege, reporting from Abuja, said many reports are still coming in from eyewitnesses.
