Morocco have officially pulled out as hosts of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, because of fears about the spread of the deadly Ebola virus.
A statement from the North African country’s sports ministry read: “The decision is dictated by health reasons because of the serious threat of Ebola and the risk of its spreading.”
The Confederaton of African Football (CAF), this week stood its ground and insisted that the continental competition must hold January 17 to February 8, 2015.
Morocco also asked for the football body to move the tournament to 2016. CAF will meet next week, to decide which country will host AFCON 2015 and also announce possible sanctions including the possibility of a lengthy ban from future Nations Cup tournaments, as punishment for Morocco’s withdrawal. ...DailyPost
