Bundesliga: Bayern Munich defender David Alaba could be out of action for several months

Bayern Munich's 2-0 victory over Roma and qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League were overshadowed by an injury to David Alaba which may rule the two-time Austrian Sportsman of the Year out for several months.

Alaba, 22, damaged ligaments in his knee and is unlikely to feature again for the Bundesliga club this calendar year.

Tests will be carried out on Thursday to discover the extent of the damage done, but Bayern coach Pep Guardiola already fears the worst.
"David is a complete footballer and can play in all positions so we're losing a great guy who plays outstanding football," Guardiola said on his club's website.
"It's a shame because he's going to miss two or three months.
"I hope that he comes back after Christmas because, with his versatility, he's very important to our game."
Claudio Pizarro has also been ruled out for several weeks after tearing his thigh in training.
"Of course it's a real shame, but I keep my fingers crossed that the team continues the form they are in," said the Peruvian, the all-time top foreign goalscorer in the Bundesliga.

"I'm sure that even without me, they will carry on collecting points in the Bundesliga and the Champions League." ...Skysports
