Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s shock election victory dashes hopes of peace with the Palestinians.
Right-winger Netanyahu won a fourth term in office that sets him up to become the country’s longest-serving leader, though he will still have to form a coalition.
He saw off the centre-left Zionist Union after vowing there would be
no Palestinian state and said: “I appreciate the decision by Israel’s
citizens to elect me against all odds and in the face of powerful
forces.”
