President Goodluck Jonathan has demoted his senior special assistant on social media, Reno Omokri. Latest reports say President Jonathan has named showbiz personality, Obi Asika as Omokri’s replacement.

A source at the Presidency told SaharaReporters that Omokri, a Pastor, who returned from California to boost President Jonathan’s political campaigns in 2011, had become a huge liability and source of distraction.

Last week, Omokri was alleged to have led policemen to burglarize a house, which belonged to his late mother, in Warri, Delta State.

The occupants of the house, including Alex Oyoro, a PDP chieftain in Delta State, claimed that Omokri had led a group of thugs and mobile police officers, who broke into the property and stole N25 million in cash.

Oyoro explained that the money was meant for President Jonathan’s re-election campaign.
Omokri, however, denied being physically present at the scene of the burglary, saying he was in Abuja.

Obi Asika, one of the co-organizers of “Social Media Week” in Lagos, is a well-known figure in Nigeria entertainment scene.

Presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati confirmed Asika’s appointment to take charge of the president’s social media coverage. Omokri is expected to report to Asika in line with the new hierarchy.
