Boko Haram hits Gombe, threatens to attack polling booths

Boko Haram on Saturday attacked Gombe metropolis, the capital of Gombe State, North-East Nigeria in an attempt to take-over the town.

The insurgents launched an early morning attack on Hina and Dadin Kowa in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of the state but were repelled by the military. They later launched another attack on nearby Zambuk but were again repelled.

At the time one of our correspondents filed this report on Saturday, a fierce battle was going on between the terrorists and men of the Nigerian Army at the 301 Artillery Regiment, Gombe, according to a resident who volunteered information anonymously.

Meanwhile, the sect has sent leaflets to residents in the state, on Saturday, threatening to bomb voters at polling booths in the forthcoming general elections.
