A vintage aircraft spectacularly exploded mid-air after its brakes failed, causing it to crash. Thousands of spectators got more than they bargained for when they lined up to watch the renowned Omaka Classic Fighters Airshow in New Zealand.
At the beginning of the biannual show, the vintage Focke Wulf 190 crashed when its right brake failed upon landing. Although the aircraft was damaged beyond return, pilot Frank Parker walked away unharmed, the Malborough Express reported.
Amazingly, Mr Parker even continued to take part in the show after the crash.
Airshow organising committee chairman Graham Orphan said it was the first crash at the show's history.
Despite the crash and strong winds, the packed Easter weekend programme continued and more than 100 aircrafts took to the skies.
