Nigerian Troops In Maiduguri Firing To Scare Boko Haram

Some residents of the uneasy northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri said they were in panic mode after hearing sustained shooting that emanated from two military barracks there. Several sources told SaharaReporters that there were prolonged bouts of shooting from Giwa and Maimalari barracks in Maiduguri.

42 Boko Haram Suspects Regain Freedom In Borno

The 7 division of the Nigeria Army, Maiduguri, Borno state on Thursday freed 42 Boko Haram suspects and handed them to the state Governor, Kashim Shettima.
Three of the suspects released were Chad, Burkina Faso and Cameroon nationals and will be repatriated immediately by the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) to their various countries.

‘Beer has health benefits’


Contrary to the popular perception, health experts said beer had lots of health and lifestyle benefits when consumed moderately.

They said this at the first Beer and Health Symposium, an initiative of Nigerian Breweries Plc aimed at changing what the company considered as a faulty public perception towards the product.

Speaking at the event held in Lagos on Tuesday, Prof. Bankole Omotosho of the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, said beer could prevent diabetes; reduce stomach ulcer and cholesterol level when consumed moderately.

Omotoso regretted that religion and wrong perception had prevented many people from benefiting from the medical value in beer consumption.

He added, “Many people have never looked at beer beyond alcohol.”

The university don, however, warned against its abuse, advising men to restrict themselves to one to three bottles. The female folks due to their slower alcohol absorption rate, he said, should take less quantity.

Wildlife filmmaker to be EATEN ALIVE by anaconda using snake-proof suit as cameras record it all


A naturalist who created a snake-proof suit will allow himself to be swallowed alive by an anaconda for an upcoming television special.

In Eaten Alive, filmmaker Paul Rosolie intends to don the bulky suit and then willingly feed himself the Amazonian serpent, the largest of which can measure 30 feet long.

The Discovery Channel special, which won't air until December 7, has already drawn the ire of animal lovers who call the stunt an act of 'animal abuse to the highest degree.'
