Hundreds missing as China ship sinks

Five people are dead and hundreds are missing after a ship carrying more than 450 people capsized on the Yangtze River in China's Hubei province.

The ship is submerged upside down in a wide stretch of the river - state media said divers tapping the hull could heard survivors trapped inside. The boat reportedly did not send out an SOS signal before sinking.

Ige’s murder case can be reopened –IG

Fourteen years after the gruesome murder of a former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige (SAN), the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, on Monday, said the case could be reopened.

Solomon, who spoke on Monday during a programme, “View from the top,” on Channels Television, said that the investigation into the murder failed because it was not based on proper intelligence.

Power generation drops to 2,000MW —FG

The country is currently generating about 2,000 megawatts of electricity, down from over 4,000MW recorded early last month, the Federal Government has said.

It also revealed that though power generation was a meagre 2,000MW; there was enough gas to produce over 6,000MW.

Borno State Governor Kassim Shettima has said there is the likelihood that the over 200 female students of the Government Secondary School, Chibok abducted by the Boko Haram fighters on April 14, 2014 may be held in bunkers in Sambisa Forest.

He therefore called on the military to go after the Boko Haram Islamic insurgents and liberate the girls.

Van Gaal plans big changes

Louis van Gaal has warned several players are in for a "rough summer" as he plots a Manchester United overhaul.

Speaking at the club's end-of-season awards ceremony, the manager promised further changes after  a £25m move for PSV winger Memphis Depay, who completed his medical at Carrington earlier this week, as he attempts to deliver the Premier League title in his second year.

PDP Social Media Accounts Hacked, Shut Down Until Further Notice

In a statement issued by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman Olisa Metuh, he claimed that the PDP would deactivate its Twitter and Facebook accounts over an alleged hacking.

The Twitter handle, @PDPNigeria, on Sunday tweeted out “we accept responsibility for all that has gone wrong & bad in the last 16years & we give you Nigerians the credit for successes recorded,” which the PDP have formally stated was from a hacker.

Jonathan govt incurs N5tn domestic debt in five years

In the over five years that President Goodluck Jonathan has been presiding over the affairs of the country, the Federal Government has borrowed N5.04tn from the domestic debt market.

Jonathan became Nigeria’s acting President on February 10, 2010 and substantive President on May 6, 2010 following the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua on May 5, 2010. On May 29, 2011, he was sworn in as an elected president.

Records at the Debt Management Office showed that the domestic debt of the Federal Government stood at N3,466,360,000,000 (N3.47tn) as of March 31, 2010.
