Arsenal have opened talks with Chelsea about signing Petr Cech this summer.
Mirror Sport understands the Gunners and French champions Paris Saint-Germain have both made official contact with the Blues, who have reluctantly agreed to sell their long-serving goalkeeper.
Cech, who turns 33 on Wednesday, is believed to prefer a move to Arsenal, and a sensational £10million deal between the bitter London rivals is now a growing possibility.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already admitted he is powerless to stand in Cech's way, and the club are unlikely to block any deal if he wants to move to the Emirates.
That
leaves the ball firmly in Arsenal's court and boss Arsene Wenger now
has the chance to pull off one of the headline deals of the summer.
The
Gunners are keen to sign a new No1 this summer - there are doubts about
last summer's £3m buy and current first-choice David Ospina while
Wojciech Szczesny is set to leave the club.
Manchester United are also watching developments, with David De Gea likely to leave them for Real Madrid.
But the feeling at Stamford Bridge is they want to repay the loyalty of a
player who has won four titles, the European Cup, four FA Cups, the
Europa League and three League Cups since arriving from French club
Rennes for £7m in 2004 by granting him his wish of moving to his
preferred club.
