Raheem Sterling was booed at Liverpool’s awards ceremony as the fans vented their anger on the contract rebel.
Sterling was jeered when he received the Young Player of the Year award. One fan shouted “stay Raheem” as he gave a short acceptance speech, thanking his team-mates.
Boos then rang around Liverpool’s Echo Arena from some of the 2,000-odd crowd.
The England winger was jeered again when his nomination for the First Team Players’ Player of the Year was announced.
There
was a stoney silence when clips of his goals were shown in contrast to
the applause for the other nominees for the award, which was won by
Philippe Coutinho.
It was an uncomfortable night for Sterling after his revelation 24 hours earlier that he wants to quit Anfield.
