Kenya bombs Somalia Al-Shabab bases

Kenyan fighter jets have bombed positions of militant Islamist group al-Shabab in neighbouring Somalia, a military spokesman has told the BBC. The warplanes had targeted two camps in the Gedo region, used by al-Shabab to cross into Kenya, the spokesman added. 

This is Kenya's first response to the al-Shabab assault which left 148 people dead at Garissa University last week.

Nigeria 2015 Polls: INEC insists on card reader for governorship polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission has restated its commitment to use card readers for the governorship and state House of Assembly elections on Saturday.

INEC stated this in its statement on Monday by Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Augusta Ogakwu.

It said, “The provision of the Guidelines for the conduct of the 2015 General Elections, which outlined what is to be done if a Card Reader fails and cannot be replaced by the Commission within a specified time frame (i.e. Reschedule the election to the next day), will be enforced.”

Five-goal Ronaldo a 'phenomenon', says Real Madrid's Benzema

Cristiano Ronaldo was hailed as a "phenomenon" following his five-goal display in Real Madrid's 9-1 thrashing of Granada on Sunday. 

The forward, 30, hit a first-half hat-trick within eight minutes following Gareth Bale's opener to help put Real a point behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Agbaje says Lagos has always done well under opposition

Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, says the state has always been doing well as an opposition state.

Agbaje said this in a statement while reacting to claims by the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, who said that Lagos would perform better if it was aligned to the centre.

Agbaje had also said during a governorship debate (before President Goodluck Jonathan’s defeat), that Lagos would experience better development if it was aligned with the centre. The APC had since last week been using it to campaign against him.

I didn’t sack Ambode, says Fashola

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has said he did not sack the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, while the latter was the Accountant-General of the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party had said Ambode was sacked by Fashola for financial impropriety but Fashola denied the allegation, saying it was part of the desperate attempts by the PDP to win Saturday’s governorship election.

Cairo bomb blast kills Egypt policeman

An Egyptian policeman has been killed in a bomb blast next to a checkpoint on a bridge in Cairo. The explosion, in the upmarket Zamalek district, injured several more people on the May 15 bridge.

A militant Islamist group named Ajnad Misr (Soldiers of Egypt) said that it had carried out the attack.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has praised Loic Remy with the French striker set to play a key role for the Blues as they close in on the Premier League title.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday looked back at his 16 years in public service and concluded that he was “in a cage” during the period. But he was quick to admit that he had yet to see anybody luckier than he had been.

Jonathan spoke while receiving residents of the Federal Capital Territory who were led by Vice President Namadi Sambo to pay him Easter homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said, “For me as an individual, this Easter concides with the time I am leaving(office) but I always say that I am one of the luckiest Nigerians. I have yet to see somebody luckier than me.”

Kim Kardashian has EMERGENCY surgery as fertility struggle continues

Kim Kardashian has been left heartbroken after doctors told her she must look into having a surrogate if she wants to have another baby.

The devastated star was rushed to hospital to undergo an emergency operation to remove some of her placenta from her uterus after she and her rapper husband Kanye West announced they were conceiving a brother or sister for little North, 22 months.

Kim, 34, was told by a fertility expert that she may not be able to carry a baby without any risk so the only way to ensure a safe pregnancy is to allow another woman to have it for her.

Fighting back tears, Kim said of her hell: “There is nothing more on this earth that I want more than to be pregnant again and to go through that experience, I would pay any amount of money to have that.”

Cancer patient gets magnetic nose after his real one is removed to stop disease spreading

A man has been left with a magnetic nose after cancer surgery. Richard Curry was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in his septum - the thin strip which separates the nostrils - and his real nose had to be removed to stop the disease spreading.

The 71-year-old has now had magnetic implants inserted into his cheekbones and nasal cavity which hold his prosthetic nose in place.

Military hand over Al Jazeera journalists to DSS

The military authorities have handed over two journalists, namely, Idris Ahmed and Ali Almustapha, working with Doha-based international television, Al Jazeera, to the Department of State Services.

Ekiti State Assembly Commences Plot To Impeach Governor Fayose

It has been gathered that at least 18 members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have agreed to commence investigations into allegations of grave misconduct against Governor Ayodele Fayose.
