Falcao reduced to tears, says mentor

Radamel Falcao has been left in tears by his Manchester United predicament, claims mentor Silvano Espindola. The Colombian striker, 29, has scored four goals in 21 appearances for the club since joining on loan from Monaco. 

"I am not going to tell you that he feels happy because he isn't," his ex-agent Espindola told AS Colombia. 

Serena Williams out of Indian Wells semi-final with injury

Serena Williams has withdrawn from her semi-final at the BNP Paribas Open because of a right knee injury. The world's top-ranked player was set to play third-seeded Simona Halep of Romania in the second semi-final. 

Williams was playing at Indian Wells for the first time in 14 years, having ended her boycott that began after she won the title in 2001 and was booed.

IS claims Yemen mosque bombings

Islamic State (IS) say its militants carried out suicide bombings on two mosques in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, which killed at least 137 people.

The attacks are the first claimed by IS - a Sunni group - since it set up a branch in Yemen in November. Both mosques were used mainly by supporters of the Zaidi Shia-led Houthi rebel movement, which controls Sanaa.

Yemen has suffered from political instability for years and Houthi rebels control nine of the 21 provinces.

US drone kills al-Shabab leader in Somalia - Pentagon

The US defence department has confirmed that it has killed an al-Shabab leader, Adan Garar. The Pentagon says the militant was hit by a drone equipped with Hellfire missiles in southern Somalia last Friday.

Garar was a suspect in the 2013 Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi that left 67 people dead.

Jonathan’s police outrider crashes to death in Abuja

One of the best police outriders in President Goodluck Jonathan’s convoy, Sirajo Alkali, has died in a crash along the Abuja airport road. The incident happened on Saturday when Mr. Jonathan was returning to Abuja after a brief visit to Adamawa State.

Mr. Alkali, a 32 year-old Police Corporal from Edo State, was said to have been one of the most gifted riders attached to the office of the president. 

A presidency source who asked not to be quoted because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said Mr. Alkali and other members of the presidential convoy had departed the Aso Villa on the fateful day to receive Mr. Jonathan.

Doping violation in Tennis involving Wayne Odesnik

American tennis player Wayne Odesnik has been banned for 15 years for a second doping violation.

Odesnik was suspended for two years in 2010 after admitting to importing human growth hormone into Australia, although that ban was reduced to one year after he helped anti-doping authorities.

The 29-year-old returned to action in 2011, although he has been mainly restricted to Challenger events and attempts to qualify for Grand Slams since the expiration of his first ban.
