Jose Mourinho loses it on the touchline as Chelsea boss berates officials after Eden Hazard penalty claim is denied... but later refuses to comment.
Jose Mourinho refused to comment on the performance of the referee and his officials despite the Chelsea manager’s touchline antics at White Hart Lane.
Mourinho saw his side slump to a 5-3 defeat to Tottenham as Harry Kane continued his excellent form for Mauricio Pochettino’s side with a brilliant double.
But the Portuguese looked unhappy throughout and remonstrated with fourth official Andre Marriner several times.
Mourinho was left incensed in the second-half when referee Phil Dowd refused to award a penalty after Eden Hazard collided with Federico Fazio when through on goal with the score at 4-2.
The Blues boss couldn't control his anger and vented his frustration at the nearby officials before being restrained by a member of the Chelsea backroom staff. He was overheard saying to Marriner 'Eh, ****ing ****, ****ing ****.'
Asked after the match regarding the Hazard incident Mourinho gave a spiky response ‘What do you mean? Why do you ask?
You know, first of all I don't want to be punished. I want to be for the next match, so I prefer just to say that we lost and that tomorrow is another day, and Sunday is another match. It Is a question I don't want to answer.’
'You know I think we made some defensive mistakes, some individual defensive mistakes. It was not easy for my defenders to cope with Chadli and Kane. But it was also not easy for their defenders to cope with an amazing hazard and Diego Costa,' added Mourinho.
'You can focus on the result. If I focus on the crucial moment of the game you know what I have to say because you have exactly the same opinion as I have and you know it is a crucial minute of the game, where a result could go four to zero and game over.'
The agitated Chelsea manager was pleased his side kept going despite their deficit: 'Lloris made an amazing save for 4-3. They tried the players, they tried a lot. The 5th goal killed our fantastic reaction.
'After that there is action on Hazard, that hazard, honest as always, tells me was not a foul, not a red card.'
'In spite of Mr Dowd being too slow to be with the ball, he was 40 yards away but made the right decision. The decision he was 10 metres away and he couldn't make it. And that's the decision that is the crucial moment of the game.'
Mourinho was equally as dismissive when questioned on the title race: 'Every game is unpredictable but there are things in the game that are becoming predictable. Forget it.'
'Of course I hate to lose, but I prefer to lose like I did against Newcastle with a clean performance by Atkinson. Unlucky performance by us, a lucky performance by Newcastle. But a game where you lose because of football is a different feeling.
We had important Christmas gifts in the last two matches, gifts that people who is in love with football do not like.'
The Hazard incident will fuel Mourinho's claims that: 'There is a campaign - not against me, but against Chelsea,' which the Blues boss claimed after Cesc Fabregas was denied a penalty at St Mary's on Sunday.
After an impressive display inspired by Spurs striker Harry Kane, Tottenham prevailed to leave Chelsea top of the Premier League but level on points with title rivals Manchester City
