APC flays President for supporting warlords

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation on Wednesday chided President Goodluck Jonathan for his alleged alliance with ethnic warlords.

It said it was disappointed that the President was aligning with individuals and groups who had been threatening to tear the country apart in case he (Jonathan) failed at the February 14 presidential polls.

The campaign organisation was reacting to a meeting held between the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku and ex-militant leaders in Yenagoa last week.

Fashola tags Jimi Agbaje as a tax defaulter

The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, says the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democracy Party, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, is a tax defaulter.

The governor said this on Wednesday at the eighth Annual Lagos State Taxation Stakeholders’ Conference in the Ikeja area.

Fashola urged the residents of the state to reject “a serial tax evader” in the forthcoming governorship election.

Fashola said, “You know that he manages a pharmacy called Jaykay Pharmacy, located at 9, Randle Close, Apapa. His pharmacy has not paid Land Use Charge for 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. They paid in 2013 and 2014 because they discovered that the election would be holding in 2015. His pharmacy owes this state N1, 629, 064.62.”

A Siberian town has found itself quite literally frozen to the core, after its water main burst amid an ice cold storm.

Residents in Dudinka, central Siberia, emerged from their homes after a powerful storm to find their street frozen solid up to their waists. The storm had burst several waterpipes in the town, and with temperatures dropping to -40C during the night, the water froze solid in the street. 

Dudinka is a small town of 22,000 residents in Krasnoyarsk Krai, a large territory in the middle of Siberia that borders the Arctic Ocean. As with many residential areas in Siberia, hot water is provided to apartment blocks from a power plant where it is centrally heated and then piped into the homes.

Captain Mikel Arteta signs 12-month extension at Arsenal

Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta has signed a one-year extension to his Arsenal contract, according to Sky sources.

The midfielder was in the final few months of his previous deal and is out until April after surgery to repair a damaged ankle.

Cristiano Ronaldo bags two match ban following red card against Cordoba

Cristiano Ronaldo has been given a two-match ban following his red card for kicking out at an opponent during Real Madrid's La Liga clash with Cordoba on Saturday.

Ronaldo was unable to make an impact in the match and his frustration saw him first lash out with his hand at Jose Crespo, which the referee missed, and then minutes later kick out at Edimar, for which he was sent off.

Apple smart watch is coming in April, says Tim Cook

The Apple Watch will be on shelves in April, according to Tim Cook.

“Development for Apple Watch is right on schedule,” Cook said on a conference call following Apple’s record-breaking results last night. “We’re going to be thrilled to start shipping it because we have a lot of customers wanting to get one.”

Apple has previously said that the smart watch will arrive in “early 2015” — and Apple said that it considers that schedule to cover the first four months of the year.

Bird flu now in 11 states in Nigeria – FG

The Federal Government today confirmed the presence of H5N1 influenza popularly known as bird flu in four additional states.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, outlined the additional states to include Oyo, Jigawa, Gombe and Imo. He said the total number of birds exposed had risen to 232,385 with 51,444 mortalities recorded.

Figo wants FIFA presidency; challenging Sepp Blatter

Former Ballon d'Or winner Luis Figo has announced his intention to stand for the FIFA presidency.

Portugal's most-capped player is the fifth man to declare an interest in opposing Sepp Blatter in the May election - and he claims he has the five nominations required to stay in the race beyond Thursday's deadline.

Speaking exclusively to CNN, Figo said: "I care about football, so what I'm seeing regarding the image of FIFA - not only now but in the past years - I don't like it."

"If you search FIFA on the internet you see the first word that comes out: scandal, not positive words. It's that we have to change first and try to improve the image of FIFA. Football deserves much better than this."

Jose Mourinho hit by FA fine after Southampton comments

Blues manager Mourinho had suggested there was a 'campaign to influence referees' decisions against his side' after Cesc Fabregas was denied a penalty in the Premier League match which finished 1-1 at St Mary's. Mourinho had denied the charge.

An FA statement read: "Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, Jose Mourinho has been fined £25,000 after he was found to have breached FA Rules in relation to media comments."

Court lifts suspension on APC’s fund-raising platform

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday restrained five telecoms firms from suspending All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign fund-raising platform.
 
Justice Ibrahim Buba made the ex-parte order following the party’s motion. The judge made an order of interim injunction restraining Etisalat, MTN, Glo, Airtel and Visafone from giving effect to a directive by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) which warned them against running political promotions that will portray them as being partisan.

The judge ordered the telecoms firms “to continue to run, operate and/or restore to its full operative use the SMS Code platform 35350 created for fund-raising for the applicant’s presidential campaign.”

Top seed Serena Williams powered into the semi-finals of the Australian Open on Wednesday, but was denied a showdown with elder sister Venus in Melbourne.

The 18-time Grand Slam singles winner took the opening set with two breaks of serve and fired down a total of 15 aces to complete a 6-2 6-2 victory in 65 minutes.

Her sister Venus had earlier lost in three sets to Madison Keys, a player 15 years her junior.

Jonathan says Nigeria’s next president must be below 50

President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday declared in Lafia, the capital of Nasarrawa State that his possible successor would be younger than him.

Jonathan, 57 said made this affirmation in Lafia as part of his ongoing second term campaign.

This declaration has, therefore, ruled out the possibility of the Vice President, Namadi Sambo, 60 and the Senate President, David Mark, 66 in succeeding him.

Fani-Kayode denies manipulation of documents against Buhari

The Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, on Tuesday, denied manipulating any document from Cambridge University to justify his claim that the West African School Certificate’s statement of result of the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, was forged, as alleged by a section of the media.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by his media consultant, Mr  Sufuyan Ojeifo, Chief Fani-Kayode declared that he never issued a statement signed by him in his capacity as spokesperson of the PDP presidential campaign, neither did he address a press conference nor briefing, where he referred to the Cambridge document in question.

Buhari tells Certificate doubters: Go to court if you like

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate in the February 14 election, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, said anybody is free to drag him to court over the controversy surrounding his secondary school certificate.

This came just as the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) explained why it resolved to support his candidacy for the election.

Cambridge University provides more details on Buhari’s WASC results

The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, UCLES, now Cambridge Assessment, has provided further details on the West African School Certificate, WASC, results presented by Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Candidate in the February 14 presidential election.

In a new post on its website, the university confirmed result grades for the examination in 1961 were issued in numbers, not letters, as suggested by critics of Mr. Buhari who have dismissed the results he presented as fabricated.

According to Cambridge, “Examination results were classed in grades from 1 to 9”.

“1, 2,3,4,5 & 6 indicate a Pass with Credit; 7 & 8 indicate a Pass; 9 indicate a Failure,” the school said.

A man who had his penis chopped off twice by his jilted wife has been offered the chance to star in a PORN movie.

Two-timing dad-of-five Fan Lung was twice stripped of his manhood after his wife discovered he was cheating on her.

After being race to hospital and the penis sewn back on, his wife went into his ward and once more cut his penis off. (Click here incase you missed it)

As news of his predicament spread, porn firm Bang You Later wrote to Fan in China offering him the chance to appear in his own blue movie.

After first offering their “deepest and sincere condolences” for his lost, the company goes on to wish him a speedy recovery with the “very best medical and physical therapy available”.

The letter says: "In support of this belief, we would like to extend a business proposition to you. We would like to make a porn film that features you and your current romantic partner, Zhang Hung."

Andre Ayew scored a late goal to put Ghana into the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals as Group C winners.
