Bad news if you've just been to the loo - you're doing it wrong. The humble toilet is a standard installation in our homes, but it might not be helping us have the healthiest bowels we can, according to an author who is an expert in bowel movements.

In fact, we should ditch the throne and squat down to defecate, according to Giulia Enders. Currently studying for her doctorate in microbiology in Frankfurt, Giulia's debut book, Darm mit Charme, which translates as Charming Bowels, has sold 200,000 copies in her native Germany, and people are gripped by her descriptions -and diagrams - of how we should be pooing.

Platini: UEFA's FFP rules to be eased

UEFA president Michel Platini has revealed some of its financial fair play rules will be "eased" - a move likely to be welcomed by clubs such as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

Last season big-spenders City and PSG were both handed £49m fines by European football's governing body and had transfer restrictions imposed after investing huge sums of money on players in recent seasons.

The president's spokesman denied that the dismissal of the defence, external relations and trade ministers was linked to the coup attempt.

The Iraqi city of Ramadi has fallen to Islamic State (IS) after government forces abandoned their positions, officials say.

The police and military made a chaotic retreat after days of intense fighting.

But the US refused to confirm the capture, saying the situation was "fluid and contested" and it was too early to make "definitive statements".

EFCC reopens subsidy fraud cases

There are indications that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is revisiting investigations into the fuel subsidy fraud cases which it abandoned since 2012.

It was learnt on Sunday that the EFCC authorities decided to step up the investigation at the twilight of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration whose disposition towards the subsidy fraud and other corruption cases, sources said, did not encourage the prosecution of the suspects.

The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Sunday said his new wife, Lara, was not a model.

He said he would rather described his new wife as “a model in my heart.”

Oshiomhole, who made this known at a special thanksgiving mass held at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Auchi in honour of the new couple, added that Lara was not a replacement for his late wife, Clara.

We’re open to merger, says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party has said that it is not contemplating a change of identity, noting that the vision of its founding fathers remains timeless.

The party also said it was open to merging with other political parties and associations that shared its ideals.

The party insisted that it was still a national political party with the strength and spread to regain pre-eminence, despite losing control of the Federal Government and some states in the last general elections.

Nigerian Police denies report of human flesh restaurant in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command on Sunday debunked media report that a certain restaurant in Awka, the state capital, has been dishing human flesh to unsuspecting members of the public in its menu.

According to the report, the police, had on discovery of the restaurant, closed down the place.

Rome glory for Maria Sharapova

Maria Sharapova warmed up for the defence of her French Open crown in the best way possible by claiming the Italian Open title for the third time in Rome.

Sharapova won a hard-fought final against Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro, losing the first set and winning a very tight second, before romping through the decider to triumph 4-6 7-5 6-1.

Sharapova felt she made too many errors in the opening set and at the beginning of the second, but said: "I thought the errors I was making were really close. I felt like I was doing the right thing and I'm glad I gave myself a chance to cut those down."

IS makes further gains in Ramadi

 
Islamic State militants have made further gains in the Iraqi city of Ramadi, with reports of them taking a key military command centre.

Local officials have said the city is on the verge of falling, with army reinforcements unable to hold ground.

The prime minister called on troops not to abandon their posts, while telling Shia militias to prepare to deploy.

Pope Francis canonises two Palestinian nuns

Pope Francis has canonised two 19th Century nuns who lived in Ottoman-ruled Palestine, making them the first Palestinian saints in modern times. 

Marie Alphonsine Ghattas and Mariam Bawardy were among four new saints declared in Rome's St Peter's Square. 

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and over 2,000 Christian pilgrims from the region attended the ceremony. The move is seen as a token of Vatican support for dwindling Christian communities in the Middle East.

He said since nobody was perfect, there was no way he would not have done some things that some people would have found annoying, saying he did not do such things deliberately.

APC disowns ministerial list

The All Progressives Congress on Sunday dismissed as mere fiction, a list of ministers being circulated especially on Social Media.

According to the APC, the party has nothing to do with the said list and urged Nigerians to wait for the authentic one which will be made public through the appropriate channels.

This was contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Abuja.

Migrants 'killed in fight for food' on boat

Migrants rescued from a sinking boat off Indonesia have told the BBC that about 100 people died after a fight broke out over the last remaining food.

Survivors told of horrific conditions. Three men separately said people were stabbed, hanged or thrown overboard. The 700 rescued migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh are being processed by the Indonesian authorities. 

Thousands of migrants are estimated to be adrift in South East Asian waters, denied permission to land.

PSG crowned French champions for the third consecutive season

Paris St-Germain were crowned French champions for the third consecutive season after a hard-fought away victory over Montpellier. 

PSG needed only a point to be certain of becoming only the fourth Ligue 1 club to win three consecutive titles.

Chelsea plan shock transfer of Man City's Edin Dzeko to replace Didier Drogba

Chelsea are planning a shock raid on Premier League title rivals Manchester City for Edin Dzeko.

Jose Mourinho will lose the muscular presence of Didier Drogba when the 37-year-old Ivorian’s contract expires next month. And newly-crowned champions Chelsea are viewing powerful Bosnia & Herzegovina international Dzeko as the ideal replacement.

City will listen to offers for the 29-year-old - and a fee of £15million was quoted when interest from Juventus, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg was lodged.

US special forces in Syria raid

The US says its special forces have killed a senior Islamic State (IS) member and captured his wife in a rare ground raid in eastern Syria.

Abu Sayyaf helped direct oil, gas and financial operations for IS, as well as holding a military role, said a US Department of Defense statement.  It said forces tried to capture him, but he was killed after engaging them.

It is the first time the US is known to have carried out a ground operation to attack IS within Syria.

Police shut Anambra restaurant for serving human flesh

A Nigerian restaurant in Anambra has reportedly been shut down for cooking human flesh and serving it to customers.

The police were tipped off by locals who suspected something horrific was taking place inside the kitchen.

They raided the hotel restaurant to discover human heads which were still dripping with blood in plastic bags.
