Actress, Angelina Jolie​,​ condemns Baga attack

Hollywood actress and United Nations Ambassador, Angelina Jolie, has condemned the recent attack by the Boko Haram terrorist group on Baga, a community in Borno State.

Ms. Jolie in a statement said each new crime committed by the group exceeds the last brutality and stressed the need for the group’s activity to be crippled in Nigeria.

I found nothing after probing Buhari’s PTF – Obasanjo

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday said his administration probed the accounts of the Petroleum Trust Fund headed by the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and found nothing unpleasant.

Buhari headed the PTF, inaugurated in March 1995, under the regime of the late dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha. The PTF was established to manage the fund accruable from the increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise know as petrol, from N3.25 to N11.

Jilted wife 'chopped off husband's penis TWICE with scissors after catching him cheating'

A jilted wife has been arrested amid reports she chopped off her cheating husband's penis twice.

According to reports in China, two-timing dad-of-five Fan Lung, 32, used his wife's phone to send lover Zhang Hung, 21, a saucy email from his marital home in Shangqiu.

But he forgot to log out of his account and his stunned wife, Feng, 30, came across the message along with several others, which sent her flying into a rage.

Furious, she's said to have grabbed a pair of scissors and stormed into their bedroom, where he was sleeping, and snipped off his manhood.

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Asiwaju Tinubu has revealed that the party had to beg its candidate for the February 14 presidential election, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to vie for the seat.

Tinubu disclosed that Buhari was initially reluctant to run for the election.

The ex Lagos State governor stated this during the presidential rally of the party in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Tuesday.

Tanzania bans witchdoctors over albino attacks

Tanzania has banned witchdoctors in a move intended to stop attacks on people with albinism. 

Home Affairs Minister Mathias Chikawe said there would be a nationwide operation to "arrest them and take them to court" if they continued to work.

Albino people, who lack pigment in their skin, have faced attacks for their body parts, which witchdoctors believe bring good luck and wealth.

Yaya Sanogo leaves Arsenal for Crystal Palace on loan

Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo has joined Premier League rivals Crystal Palace on loan for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old has only played six times for the Gunners this season, but did manage his first competitive goal for the club in their 2-0 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund.

The Nigerian Police averted explosion at APC/INEC secretariat

The Ebonyi State police command, on Monday, foiled an attempt to bomb the secretariat of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abakaliki, and the office of the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC), as the suspected explosive device failed to explode.

A source, who doubles as an aide to the APC governorship candidate in the state, Mr John Ekeh, confided in Nigerian Tribune, on condition of anonymity, alleging that the plot was masterminded by some suspected agents of some political parties in the state.

Snapchat, WhatsApp and iMessage users have hit out against Tory proposals that could see their favourite messaging apps being banned in the UK.

Prime Minister David Cameron yesterday vowed to make it impossible for terrorists to communicate via private messaging.

But in doing so, he appeared to hint that if the Tories get elected, he will ban some of the world's most popular apps that use encryption technology to make messages more secure.

Boko Haram attacks Cameroonian military base

The Nigerian extremist sect, Boko Haram, has attacked a military base in Cameroon with at least one soldier killed, local media have reported.

The attack occurred early Monday, about a week after Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, threatened attacks on Cameroon after the country’s military launched repeated assaults against the sect.

Eminem Grants Wish of Terminally Ill Fan

Eminem isn't always the angry rapper who rips people on tracks, sometimes he's the sweetheart who visits the home of a terminally ill fan and doesn't tell a soul about it.

The fan in question is 17-year-old Gage Garmo who has been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, and has been told he only has one week to live. Just three days ago, Gage's friends and family started up the hashtag #GetGageGarmoToMeetEminem in an effort to the attention of the rapper.

And it worked. We're told Em arranged for a home visit at Gage's place in Michigan which is only about 20 minutes from where Em lives.   

Elections may not hold in North-East —Jega

CHAIRMAN of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, on Monday, said unless there is a significant improvement in the security situation in the North-East, next month’s general election may not take place in the zone.
 
He stated this at a forum in Abuja, organised by the African Policy Research Institute.

Schalke agree loan deal with purchase option for Manchester City's Matija Nastasic

Schalke have agreed a deal to sign Manchester City's Matija Nastasic on loan.

The agreement, which is subject to a successful medical, runs until the end of June when Schalke will have the option of making the transfer permanent.

Schalke will reportedly pay a loan fee of around £1.6m to secure Nastasic's services on loan, while the buy-out clause is just over £10m.

Jonathan meets with Obasanjo in a peace meeting

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday hosted President Goodluck Jonathan   at his Hilltop   residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

It was gathered that the   meeting which started around 7pm and ended at about 9.15pm   centered on Jonathan’s re-election bid and the need to resolve the disagreement between the two.

President Goodluck Jonathan has said that occupants of the offices of the first lady across the nation “are not spending government money,” even though the platform has become veritable means of mobilising women for national development.

The President’s position was a response to the complaints on social media that the offices constitute unnecessary burden to government, as they have become avenues through which public resources are frittered away.

Chelsea's wage bill rises to £190.5m a year but is still lower than Manchester clubs

Chelsea's annual accounts, which have been lodged at Companies House, reveal salaries for the 2013-14 season were up eight per cent from £176m last year to £190.5m.

Manchester United are the highest payers in English football, spending £214.8m while City's wage bill dropped last season to £205m.

Arsenal are fourth in the pay league with a bill of £166.4m, while the Southampton's wage bill is a fraction of their rivals – the latest figures available, for 2012-13, show the Saints, currently third in the Premier League, paid out £47.1m in salaries.

Chelsea's accounts confirm the club's announcement in November that they made a £18.4m profit last season, helped by a £65m profit due to the sales of Juan Mata to Manchester United, David Luiz to Paris St Germain and Kevin de Bruyne to Wolfsburg.

Just hours after calling transfer rumours "all lies", Lionel Messi has admitted he could one day leave Barcelona.

Messi gave an interview to Barca's television channel on Sunday and specifically addressed reports linking him with Chelsea and Manchester City, even going as far as to say: "I have no intention of leaving anywhere."

Contaminated beer kills 69 people at funeral in Mozambique and 196 hospitalized

Traditional beer possibly contaminated with crocodile bile has killed 69 people in Mozambique, health authorities have said.

Those who drank the contaminated brew were attending a funeral in the region on Saturday, district health official Alex Albertini said.

Pombe, a traditional Mozambican beer, is made from millet or corn flour. Authorities believe that the drink was poisoned with crocodile bile during the course of the funeral.

Messi denies stories linking him to Chelsea and Man City

Lionel Messi has denied stories claiming he wants to quit Barcelona for either Chelsea or Manchester City.

Last week, rumours began to intensify, with speculation that Messi and other Barcelona players were not happy with manager Luis Enrique.

The Argentine was linked with a big-money move to the Premier League, but he has now cleared the air on the matter.

“I don’t demand anything for me to stay because I have no intention of leaving anywhere,” he told Barca TV.

Despite being imprisoned by the administration of then Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, under the draconian Degree 4 of 1983, journalist Tunde Thompson has declared his support for the former’s presidential bid.

Mr. Thompson said he has forgiven the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and will firmly support him in the forthcoming presidential election.

The journalist was the Guardian newspaper diplomatic correspondent when he was arrested by the defunct secret police, the National Security Organisation, NSO, alongside a former member of the House of Representatives and current chairman of the League Management Company, Nduka Irabor, who was then an assistant editor at the Guardian. Mr. Thompson was sentenced to a year in prison, for writing about the closure and retirement of some diplomatic staff. He told the Sun newspaper that Mr. Buhari did not order his arrest.
